Early Engagement
As part of the Waikirikiri Ki Tua Future Selwyn Area Plan early engagement , the ‘My Future Town’ initiative invited community input to help shape the long-term future of towns and rural areas across the Selwyn District.
This engagement aimed to gain a deeper understanding of what residents, local organisations, and stakeholders value most about their communities, as well as the changes and improvements they envision over the next 30 to 50 years.
The insights gathered will support strategic planning decisions aligned with our six strategic priorities: housing, infrastructure, transport, blue green, people and communities, and economy.
Workshops took place throughout the district with a focus on the three areas; Eastern Selwyn (including Rolleston, Lincoln, Prebbleton and surrounding areas), Malvern (including Darfield, Sheffield, Springfield, Arthur's Pass and surrounding areas) and Ellesmere (including Leeston, Southbridge, Dunsandel, Doyleston and surrounding areas).
My Future Town Workbook
Tamariki from across the district spent time designing their future town this summer. When designing their future town they were asked to think about what they like and don’t like about their town and explore ideas to improve their town for everyone.
