Host Responsibility

The Selwyn District Licensing Committee (DLC) requires a Host Responsibility Policy to be submitted with all licence applications.  Host responsibility policies are designed to reduce alcohol related harm by creating and promoting a safe drinking environment.

The key elements of a host responsibility policy include:

  • Serving alcohol responsibly
  • Providing and promoting alternatives such as low and non-alcohol beverages
  • Providing and promoting an appropriate selection of food
  • Preventing the sale and supply of alcohol to minors
  • Preventing intoxication
  • Providing safe transport options
  • Educating and training staff in host responsibility practices
  • Provision of free water
