This week, as we mark National Volunteer Week and The Big Shout Out, it’s important to pause and recognise the people who quietly keep our community strong. From sports clubs and community groups to charities, volunteers give their time, skills and compassion to Selwyn every day.

We would like to offer a special thank you to Selwyn’s emergency management volunteers. NZRT21, the Selwyn Response Team, provides vital rescue, reconnaissance, and flood and storm support. The Selwyn Emergency Support Team (SEST) cares for displaced residents and assesses welfare needs, and our community response teams, remain our trusted eyes and ears within communities.

Together, these teams, and all the volunteers who stand alongside them work to strengthen resilience, connection and wellbeing in our district. Thank you for everything you do for Selwyn, your dedication does not go unnoticed.

During this week, we encourage everyone to acknowledge and celebrate the volunteers around them, today and throughout the year. Your efforts truly make Selwyn a stronger community for all of us.
