Nothing says getting to know your neighbours like a barbeque and games.

And for Lynda in Lincoln, the street barbeque they held with support from the Council’s Meet Your Street fund last November was so popular they decided to host it again.

Twenty-four neighbours including all age ranges from six-month year old to someone in their 90’s, attended.

“I was really taken aback by everyone who showed up, they all talked to each other and had a good time. It was a very successful event. We're going to have another one in six months' time,” says Lynda.

“I encourage everyone to just get on and do it. It turned out better than I thought. And if we had an earthquake or something, we all know we can call on each other. A big thank you to the Council for helping with the get together.”

From now until the end of March, communities across Aotearoa are coming together in all sorts of ways for Neighbours Aotearoa 2025. It’s about connecting with the people around us, in whatever way makes sense for your neighbourhood.

Want to get involved? Host a gathering, join an event, or simply take a moment to check in with those nearby. Our Meet Your Street fund offers a subsidy of up to $100 per street to hold your own street gathering.
