Businesses in the Lincoln town centre can now apply for support through Selwyn District Council's new Lincoln Town Centre Fund, designed to help eligible businesses during the town centre's ongoing transformation.

The fund has been created to help eligible businesses that have experienced a drop in turnover of more than 25% due to the redevelopment works, recognising the disruption that can occur during major construction projects.
Key points for business owners:

  • Applications are now open and close on 20 September 2026.
  • It is available to eligible businesses on Gerald Street, Robert Street, West Belt and Maurice Street directly affected by Stage 1 works.
  • Businesses with a demonstrated turnover decline of 25-50% may be eligible for up to 50% funding, while those with a decline of more than 50% may be eligible for up to 100% funding, subject to assessment and available funds.
  • Funding can be used for any legitimate business purpose to help maintain operations during the construction period.

Springs Ward Councillor Aaron McGlinchy says the fund reflects Council's commitment to supporting local businesses through the redevelopment period.

"I am pleased the fund is finally open for businesses to apply too. Whilst small compensation in the scheme of things, it recognises the huge disruption they have faced over a long period. As stage one completes, I hope people will come for a look and return to shopping locally. The businesses need all our support," he says.

The first funding round is available to eligible businesses located on Gerald Street, Robert Street, West Belt and Maurice Street where Stage 1 redevelopment works have been immediately adjacent to their premises. Applications opened on 17 August 2026 and close on 20 September 2026.

To be eligible, businesses must be able to demonstrate that the redevelopment works have had a material impact on their operations and resulted in a decline in turnover of more than 25 percent compared with the same period in the previous financial year.

A second funding round is planned for businesses affected by Stages 2 and 3 of the Lincoln Town Centre redevelopment, with applications expected to open in June 2027. Businesses are encouraged to check the eligibility criteria and apply before the closing date.
