Get to know your Council candidates

What are the top priorities of candidates running for the Selwyn District Council this election?
Voters in Waikirikiri Selwyn can now find out more about the candidates standing for the Council and Malvern Community Board with videos launched on the candidate profiles area of our website .
The videos see candidates outline their top priorities, why they are right for a governance role and what the biggest challenge is facing the district. The videos are now available, alongside candidate profile statements and contact information.
All candidates were emailed an invitation to attend a filming session at the Council’s main office in Rolleston, to answer three questions to form a short video. Thirty seven candidates accepted the opportunity to take part in the videos, which were filmed and edited in-house by Council staff.
Chief Executive Sharon Mason says it’s great to see so many candidates take up the opportunity to film. “With elections just around the corner, and so many candidates standing this year, we wanted to give voters information to help them make an informed decision” Mason says.
“Elections are an important opportunity for Waikirikiri Selwyn residents to have a say on the district’s future, so we want to make sure they have good information and encourage everyone to get out and vote.”
The videos are a chance for voters to see who’s standing and what they are standing for, with all candidates who took up the opportunity answering the same three questions. “Candidates were asked what their top priorities were, why they’re right for a governance role, and what is the biggest challenge facing Waikirikiri Selwyn.”
Mason wants to encourage people to turn out to vote and have their say. “Voting papers will be delivered from Tuesday 9 September and it’s really important that people get out and vote. Have your say on who represents you!”
Postal voting papers will be mailed out to all electors from 9 September, with voting open until 12 midday, on Saturday 11 October
