Selwyn welcomed 52 residents as New Zealand citizens at a ceremony held at the Dunsandel Community Centre
last week.

Those receiving citizenship traced their roots back to 15 countries, including Chile, Ireland, the Philippines and Romania.

A large crowd of family, friends and supporters joined Mayor Lydia Gliddon and Ngāi te Ruahikihiki ki Taumutu, along with representative Dr Liz Brown to celebrate as each person received their citizenship.

So far this year, 748 people have become New Zealand citizens at Selwyn ceremonies, representing 51 countries.
