On a fine warm evening in February last year, 21 neighbours in Leeston got together for nibbles and a barbeque, with support from the Council’s Meet Your Street Fund.

Event organiser Sharyn said she had no idea that the funding was available and was surprised at how easy the funding was to apply for.

“I am so pleased that I applied for the funding as we had some lovely nibbles and garlic bread to put towards our event for all to enjoy. It meant that people only had to provide their meat and a salad. They didn’t have to worry about bringing too much and they could just come along and have a great time!”

From now until the end of March, communities across Aotearoa are coming together in all sorts of ways for Neighbours Aotearoa 2025. It’s about connecting with the people around us, in whatever way makes sense for your neighbourhood.
