A record number of nominees were recognised as Selwyn celebrated business and community success at the Selwyn Awards on Saturday night.

The highly anticipated awards ceremony was hosted by comedian and presenter Jeremy Corbett at the Selwyn Sports Centre, with 600 guests enjoying refreshments sourced from local suppliers and serenaded by Ōtautahi band and Selwyn Sounds opening act Castaway.

The Awards remain a high point in the Selwyn calendar with a record 174 applicants across nine categories and nearly 5000 votes cast for the People’s Choice award, won this year by Ratana Italian Restaurant.

Two members of Waihora Kī o Rahi with their award for Inspiring Active LivesEach of the nine categories had five or six finalists, selected from a highly deserving pool of applicants by an independent panel of judges, with one winner chosen in each category.

Mayor Sam Broughton says it was an inspiring evening celebrating individuals, community groups, and organisations from across Waikirikiri Selwyn who help make the district a great place to call home and a great place to do business.

“We are lucky in Selwyn to have some incredible people who make this a special place to live and work. The Selwyn Awards is a great opportunity to acknowledge their work, their innovation and their passion. Well done to all the nominees this year – it really showcased Selwyn’s huge range of talented individuals, businesses, and community initiatives at the centre of our Districts success. And congratulations especially to this year’s award winners.”

The Selwyn Awards 2025 was presented by Carter Group. The Council gratefully acknowledges all the event’s sponsors for making the night possible.
