Feedback rolling in on Council’s plan for the district

More than 200 Selwyn residents and organisations have had their say on Selwyn District Council’s draft Annual Plan 2026/27, as the consultation enters its final three weeks.
The Council has so far received 245 submissions on its proposals for the district. Those who are yet to have their say are being encouraged to provide their feedback by 26 April so that it can be considered by Councillors before final decisions are made.
Three weighted average rates increase options of 6.5%, 5.4% and 4.9% are being considered for 2026/27, which are all lower than had been previously signaled. Cost savings totaling at least $9.2 million are included in all three options.
People are being asked which rates option they support and if they agree with the Council’s proposal to scale back spending and move towards a more ‘user-pays’ system, where appropriate.
The cost-savings initiatives would affect fees and charges; the district’s economic development programme; the Capital Works Programme; grant funding; Council-run community events; the District Park project (Rolleston); and Council operations including opening hours on public holidays, library-run programmes, and the delivery of Council strategies.
Everyone in Selwyn is invited to have their say. Feedback will help the Council determine if what is proposed is the right path for the district.
