Heart of Rolleston set to grow as Stage Two of town centre confirmed

Rolleston’s Town Centre is set to grow again with new buildings to be constructed in Rolleston Fields and the town square area confirmed to be built in Stage Two.
This second phase of the Town Centre development will build on the momentum of Stage One, through a mix of retail and much-needed office space in Rolleston Fields.
The Council has also committed to complete the town square, the last public space the Council committed to complete as part of the new Rolleston Town Centre plan confirmed in 2019.
The Council will lead the design of the town square, while Cooper Developments delivers the commercial buildings, continuing to create a vibrant, connected heart for Rolleston.
Construction of two new blocks of commercial buildings is expected to begin in February with the first two buildings planned to be completed in August 2027 and all buildings by December 2027. The Council will also be seeking community input on the uses of the updated town square plan in the new year, to ensure the final public space meets the long-term needs of the town and the district.
The Stage Two development reflects the significant growth Rolleston is experiencing, with the town expected to officially become a city with over 50,000 residents within the next 10 years. The Selwyn economy is also growing rapidly with Infometrics data showing Selwyn had the highest increase in employment in the past decade.
Selwyn District Mayor Lydia Gliddon says the town centre work demonstrates the value of planning well for long-term growth.

Stage Two will continue the partnership between the Council and Cooper Developments, with Cooper Developments delivering the commercial areas of Rolleston Fields, bringing together retail, hospitality, wellness and office space.
Rolleston Fields Director Caroline Cooper-Dixon says the next stage will continue the vision to make Rolleston Fields somewhere people can work, meet, eat, shop and access the services they need locally.
“The best town centres are not created overnight. They evolve over time, with different reasons for people to visit throughout the day. Stage 2 will continue that approach; designed to support a more active town centre.”
Mayor Gliddon says the project shows how the Council is preparing for growth by supporting more local services, employment opportunities and commercial space in the heart of Rolleston.
“A strong town centre gives people more reasons to stay local, supports businesses and employment, and helps make sure Rolleston grows in a way that works for the community over the long term,” she says.
Businesses interested in future opportunities at Rolleston Fields are encouraged to contact Cooper Developments at caroline@rollestonfields.co.nz.
