Get your skates on, fly your kite, chill in the pool or listen to great music - the sun’s out and there’s a full calendar of things to enjoy over Summer in Selwyn.

With over 30 whānau-friendly events and activities throughout January and February there’s something for everyone to enjoy, Council’s Executive Director of Community Services and Facilities, Denise Kidd says.

“Selwyn is growing, and with new residents arriving, many haven’t yet had the chance to meet others or find their way around the district. Offering a broad range of free events helps create those connections and build a sense of belonging.

“We also expect some of these events will appeal to the large number of young people we are lucky enough to have in Selwyn and provide positive and fun opportunities for them. While Council is limited in the number and types of events it can deliver directly, we can lean into the services, pools, libraries, sports centres, and reserves we manage—to create experiences that have a real, positive impact for locals. We couldn’t put on some of these events without our sponsors such as Woolworths and Arbor Green, so a big thank you to them for helping make it a great summer.”

Favourite events are back. Join the thousands flying kites at Foster Park on Kite Day, listen to the sounds of great music from local performers at Music in the Park and bring your teddies to the ever-popular Teddy Bears’ Picnic.

For those looking to get active, you can get your skates on for a roller disco, dive into our popular annual pool parties, ride and slide on your skateboard, or try the range of sports at the Selwyn Sports Centre. There’s also heaps to explore around the district whether that’s hunting a moa on a Storywalk hosted by library team members, or visiting playgrounds across the district to solve the playground pursuit puzzle.

For those looking to kick back and chill there’s art and craft workshops, music, picnic in the park, or explore a whole new world with the Selwyn Libraries Summer Reading Challenge.
