Selwyn residents can apply to join a trip to China from 17 to 29 April 2027, as part of the Rewi Alley celebrations.

The trip marks 100 years since Springfield-born Rewi Alley arrived in Shanghai to begin 60 years of living and working in China.

The April anniversary is one of several milestones in 2027 celebrating Rewi Alley’s legacy. December 2027 marks 130 years since his birth in Springfield.

The year also marks 85 years since the Shandan Bailie Vocational College was set up in Gansu province, where his work continues.

Delegates will spend time in Beijing, Xi'an, Lanzhou and six days in Gansu Province, home to Selwyn's sister city Shandan.

The trip will include visits to the Rewi Alley Memorial Museum and Mogao Caves.

Those attending will need to pay for their own travel, insurance and train fares, as well as costs in Beijing and Xi’an.

Places are limited and applications close on Sunday 29 November.
