Selwyn’s extensive network of community groups will be showcasing their offerings for the district’s rapidly growing proportion of people reaching retirement age, at the annual SWELL Seniors' Lifestyle Expo on 13 October 2026.

Selwyn District Council is proud to support the Expo, which helps connect older residents with the groups, services and activities that keep them active and engaged, making the district not just a good place to raise a family, but also a terrific place to retire.

Selwyn District Council  Executive Director Community Services and Facilities Denise Kidd says the district has a large variety of community groups and clubs catering to a range of needs and interests, so the Expo is sure to have something for everyone.

“The key ingredients for a fulfilling retirement are staying active and connected, and the SWELL Expo ticks both those boxes,” she says.

More than 70 organisations will be at the Lincoln Event Centre for the Expo, building on the success of last year's event, which attracted 2000 visitors.

Kidd says the SWELL Expo is an important part of the social calendar in Selwyn, as the population over 65 years continues growing to be a greater proportion of our community fabric.

“Our council projections show the number of residents over 65 years of age is set to triple in the next 30 years from the latest Census figure,” says Kidd.

“We know that a thriving older generation is vital to the success of our community, so I’d really encourage people to get along to the Expo. It’s a chance to see what services and activities are out there and perhaps guide you into new interests and hobbies.”

“Most importantly, it’s a free event, so it’s a great opportunity to enjoy a day out in Lincoln and meet new people.”

Sponsored by Bupa, the Expo will run from 9am to 2pm on Tuesday October 13 at the Lincoln Event Centre.
