The In the Zone event is held twice a year, bringing together land developers and industry professionals to hear about the latest land development issues and initiatives in Selwyn.

The May event was held on Thursday 21 May and focused on change and reform, and what this means for how Selwyn will grow in the future. It also provided an opportunity for developers to ask questions of Council and discuss how to work more closely together as the district continues to grow.

The programme included a presentation from Mayor Lydia Gliddon on Shaping Selwyn, alongside an update from Selwyn Water CEO Alex Cabrera.

Head of Planning Emma Larsen also discussed the Resource Management Act reform and its impact on Selwyn and developers.

Improvements in planning, early engagement and streamlined processes have also delivered faster consent processing times, even as application numbers continue to grow, she said. So far this calendar year, the Council has processed over 300 resource consents and nearly 600 building consents, with average processing times of just under 15 days for resource consents and around 10 days for building consents, despite record application volumes.
