Selwyn is being asked how it wants its local government to be structured in a new survey live today, Friday 5 June.

Selwyn District Council is asking the community whether it should combine with neighbouring Canterbury councils, take on the functions currently delivered by ECAN, both or neither, in a new 60-second survey.

“Big changes are coming. It’s vital that Selwyn residents have a voice in what our local government will look like,” says Selwyn Mayor Lydia Gliddon.

The survey is in response to the Government’s Head Start pathway for councils to put forward a new local government organisation.

Mayor Gliddon explains she is open-minded about the result and wants to hear what the community wants.

“These changes will affect how local decisions are made and how services are delivered in Selwyn. We need to know what matters most to the community. We’ll then take that feedback to the discussion table with our neighbouring councils.”

“Take 60 seconds to fill out the six question survey – you could do it while waiting for the jug to boil or your toast to pop.”

The survey is open until midnight 21 June and can be found at www.selwyn.govt.nz/headstart, and printed in council libraries and facilities.
