Election candidates confirmed
The people standing to represent Waikirikiri Selwyn as Councillors and Community Board members in this year’s local government elections have now been confirmed.
Nominations for candidates closed on Friday last week, with candidates confirmed for all vacancies.
The full list of candidates can be viewed online at selwyn.govt.nz/elections.
Provisionally, based on the nominations received, elections will be required in all four Council wards and for the two councillors to represent the district at large. The two subdivisions in the Malvern Community Board area will also be contested.
Three nominations were received for the Mayoralty, with incumbent Sam Broughton being opposed by Lydia Gliddon and Brad Mannering.
In the Tawera Malvern Ward there are two nominations for one vacancy, while in the Kā Mānia Rolleston Ward there are 12 nominations for three vacancies. In the Te Waihora Ellesmere Ward two nominations have been received for one vacancy. In the Kā Puna Springs Ward, seven nominations were received for three vacancies. Six nominations have also been received for the two vacancies to represent the district at large.
In the Malvern Community Board area, six nominations were received for three vacancies in the Hawkins Community subdivision and three for the two vacancies in the Tawera subdivision.
The total of 41 candidate nominations is 12 more than the 29 received in the last local elections in 2022. Candidate profiles and contact details will be available from later this week on the Council website selwyn.govt.nz/elections or on request from the deputy electoral officer: electoral.officer@selwyn.govt.nz.
Postal voting papers will be mailed out to all electors from 9 September, with voting open until 12 midday on Saturday 11 October.
