New sports spaces coming for West Melton
New tennis and netball courts and a car park extension are coming as work on the next stage of the West Melton Reserve Master Plan gets under way.
The Council has confirmed eight new tennis courts will be built next door to the West Melton Community and Recreation Centre, along with an additional 40 car parks, with work starting in June. Four of the tennis courts will also double as netball courts, with lighting installed.
The upgrades were agreed as the next stage of the West Melton Reserve Master Plan, to meet the growing demand at one of Selwyn’s busier reserves. Circuit Civil and Asphalt has been confirmed as the contractor for the work.
The existing six courts will remain open while the new courts are built and the final stages of the reserve master plan are confirmed, increasing field and club spaces and improving access to meet future demand, Council Executive Director Infrastructure and Property Tim Mason says.
“West Melton is one of our busier reserves especially for tennis, with the largest tennis club in the district. Having fun outdoors is something residents have told us is a key part of Selwyn’s lifestyle. It’s good to be delivering what we agreed with the community, helping more people make the most use of the reserve, keep active and enjoy themselves.”
During construction there may be limited access to some car parks in the West Melton Community and Recreation Centre car park. We will keep people updated with any restrictions on site. The reserve and the Community and Recreation Centre will remain open.
