Taste Selwyn has been exciting taste buds and getting attention from thousands of people.

The annual event showcases eateries around the region that create special dishes using the finest Selwyn ingredients.

The dishes were proving popular with punters, Union Fare Eatery owner Tom Hiddlestone says.
“We definitely saw a connection between Taste Selwyn and the dish, with people specifically asking for the Taste Selwyn dish. There was quite a bit of social media buzz around it and everyone seemed to enjoy the concept. It’s become a good thing for promoting local producers and outlets.”

A series of Taste Selwyn events were also held with a food theme, covering cooking demonstrations, art and food and food’s impacts on health. The events proved very popular with sold out dates for a live cooking demonstration with Langdale Restaurant chef Lauren Carmichel and to hear Selwyn resident and PhD student Angela Sherwin and Taste Selwyn chef Monika Rastogi talk about the Nutrients, Nutrion & Mental Health.

Te Whare Tapare at Te Ara Ātea was filled to capacity for the Nutrients, Nutrition & Mental Health event. It combined the latest research on our food choices, how to define what is healthy and practical insights on incorporating healthier choices into everyday meals, which can be locally sourced and purchased.

People tasting the dishes were encouraged to share their experiences on social media with the campaign attracting attention from 150,000 accounts on Facebook alone over the month of May, with almost 12,000 new users from across the country and Australia visiting the Selwyn NZ website to view more information about Taste Selwyn.
