Know a young person who would be an excellent representative for their community? The Selwyn Youth Council is looking for new members.

Applications for the 2024 Youth Council are now open, with young people aged 12–24 who live in the district welcome to apply by 31 October.

The Youth Council provides a voice for Selwyn’s rangatahi, and delivers projects designed to support youth. It also consults with the community and provides advice to the Selwyn District Council.

Selwyn Youth Councillor Makaira Halliday says the group is a great space to meet other likeminded people with similar passions.

“It’s a great starting point for rangatahi who want to provide a voice for youth and strengthen their wellbeing. Through my time with the Youth Council, I’ve been part of efforts to get the new Rolleston Youth Hub up and running, as well as the new skate park.”

Fellow Youth Councillor, Mackenzie Wills says, “The Youth Council has opened doors for me to have a real-life impact on my community. My experience has been nothing but positive and I would recommend the Youth Council to anyone who wants to share their voice and break stereotypes.”
