A pile of dead branches sits in the middle of a dry fieldFire and Emergency New Zealand has advised that the Selwyn district has moved into a restricted fire season as of Thursday 5 March.

This means that anyone wanting to light a fire outside in the Selwyn district will need to obtain a permit from Fire and Emergency. Gas or charcoal barbecues can still be used without a permit.

People can apply for fire permits by calling Fire and Emergency New Zealand on 0800 658 628 or at www.checkitsalright.nz, where you can also find tips on keeping your property safe.
