Three single story buildings bearing the logs of burgerfuel, lone star and majestic tea across a car park

The first Rolleston Fields shops and new roads are opening over the next few weeks as the latest milestones are marked in completing the new heart of Rolleston.

Burgerfuel, Lone Star and Majestic Tea will become the first commercial spaces to open in Rolleston Fields – the commercial area of the Rolleston Town Centre - opening over the next month. More commercial spaces are on the way early next year, commercial developer Tennyson 21 has confirmed.

The Council is also opening two new roads on Monday next week (31 October), Christensen Parade and Rōhutu Way, along with new car parks to support access to the town centre, while the Youth Zone is on track to open in December, Council Acting Major Projects Manager Phillip Millar says.

“This is a huge step for the town centre, and helping create a hub and a heart for the community. It’s exciting to see these buildings and roads opening and the community spaces taking shape. Seeing the way people have embraced and enjoyed using Te Ara Ātea and the Sensory Space has been fantastic and with these developments and the Youth Zone we’re really starting to see the vibrant community heart we’ve been planning and looking forward to for so long.”

Access to the town centre will be available via Christensen Parade off Rolleston Drive next to the Rolleston Community Centre or from Moore Street at the Wordsworth Street intersection. There also will be one-way entrance off Tennyson Street to the new car park south of Te Ara Ātea, with the exit onto Rōhutu Way and then Christensen Parade.

Work on the next stage of the skateable area in the reserve is under way. This means some of the temporary skate park has been fenced off for construction work, with the remaining area open to use until the new skate features are complete.

The car parks will include six electric car charges, which will be installed by Meridian Energy early next year as part of a partnerhsip with the Council to install more chargers in public parking spaces across Selwyn.
