The Selwyn District Council is encouraging dog owners to get their furry friends registered once notices arrive in letterboxes around the start of July.

All dogs older than three months must be registered every year (July-June) under the Dog Control Act 1996. The owner of an unregistered dog can be fined $300.

Registration fee

Samoyed dog in Rolleston dog parkThe 2018/19 fees are due on Sunday 1 July 2018, and may be paid throughout July.

This may be done via a payment link when the form is emailed, by internet banking, at the Rolleston Headquarters or at the Service Centres in Leeston, Darfield or Lincoln. Alternatively, you can use the prepaid return envelope provided with your registration form.

If paid by Tuesday 31 July 2018, the discounted registration fee applicable is:

  • $10 Administration/Owner fee
  • $30 for each dog owned by the same person and held at the same locality.

Payment after Tuesday 31 July 2018 the full registration fee applicable is:

  • $15 Administration/Owner fee
  • $40 for each dog owned by the same person and held at the same locality.

The fee for a replacement dog tag is $5 and for a dog collar $9–$11 depending on the size. If you have changed your email address or postal address recently, please email animalcontrol@selwyn.govt.nz to confirm your details.
