During CultureFest 2022 people can tune in to Plains FM 96.9 to hear stories from our newest community members, how they came to settle in Waikirikiri/Selwyn and learn about their culture.

Last year’s Faces of Selwyn participant, Rita Yosef, says she enjoyed sharing her culture and her language, her favourite recipes and her experience as a new immigrant.

“The Israeli culture is so different to the New Zealand culture, and sometimes hard to understand by kiwis. I was very lucky to be able to talk about the different food customs, holidays and traditions and get people involved.”

Rita says food is a very important part of culture.

“The food represents the character of the traditions and the holidays, even the religions in the area. It shows what a big 'melting pot' of cultures are involved and what amazing interesting flavours and tastes people can learn and get to know about.”

Faces of Selwyn also gave Rita the opportunity to successfully start up her own podcast on PlainsFM.
