There’s just over a week left for Selwyn residents to let the Council know what they think about the review of the current District Plan so far.

Are we on the right track? has been the theme of the initial public consultation on a number of key draft changes for the future District Plan, which closes at 5pm on Monday 8 October 2018.

The District Plan, which has to be reviewed every 10 years, is our ‘rule book’ that governs how people can use and develop land. For example, if you own or rent a property, it regulates things like what kind of activities you can undertake, what type of buildings can be located on your property or whether you can operate a business and what kind.

Thank you to all those who have so far contacted us or visited our Your Say Selwyn website  and sent their feedback or completed an online survey.

A reminder that there are different options for people to provide feedback on the key draft changes. They can:

  • submit online surveys that have been developed for each of the topics
  • meet us face-to face at our last drop-in session on 30 September in Lincoln at the CultureFest 2018
  • answer the questions in the various sections within the consultation summary document or individual topic factsheets. The answers to questions can then be: emailed to districtplanreview@selwyn.govt.nz, or posted to

So what happens next?

Feedback from this consultation will help inform the proposed rules which will be included in the Proposed District Plan. It’s expected the Proposed District Plan will be notified in early 2020 for formal public consultation and be fully in place, subject to any Environment Court appeals, in March 2022.
