A picture of the upgraded Southbridge reserve showing picnic tables, paths and lawns

Southbridge Reserve will fully reopen on Friday after a major upgrade.

A new playground item and safety surface was installed last year in the first phase of the upgrade, and new pathways, picnic tables near the playground, lawns and a mix of native and exotic plantings have now been added.

A paved courtyard area will celebrate the history of the township. The courtyard area includes a flag pole and space for three historical panels about the township, which will be added at a later date.

The intention is for the reserve to be the site of the town’s first war memorial and work is underway to design the memorial

Restoration work on the Southbridge Hall, opposite the reserve is also set to begin in November.
