Mayor Sam Broughton, daughter Elliot and wife Liz in a gardenThis time last year we were all looking for light at the end of a very long COVID-19 tunnel. This year we have been able to enjoy many great community

events together including the Hororata Highland Games and our agricultural shows, as well as just being able to smile at one another without masks as we pass one another in cafes and at gatherings. I’m proud to see our district on display and for our agricultural sector to be able to show their best.

Christmas is a time to reflect and spend time reconnecting with those that we might not have seen for a while, slowing things down and simply enjoying conversations. Christmas break is also an opportunity to recharge the batteries and step back from the things that take us away from our loved ones, put down the electronics and reach for a book or a board game.

Liz and I will be taking some time out with our daughter Elliott and our wider whānau to do just that and enjoy the very best that Waikirikiri Selwyn has to offer; I trust you can do the same.

Merry Christmas.
Mayor Sam
