A representation review looks at a local government’s representation arrangements. How many councillors there are; if you have wards and community boards; and where the ward boundaries are.
All councils must do a representation review at least once every six years, as required under the Local Electoral Act 2001.
Waikirikiri Selwyn is one of the fastest growing districts in the country – since 2021 our population has grown about 13%.
The population in some parts of our district has grown more than others and councillors are now representing an uneven number of people. Because of this, we need to be more responsive to our representation arrangements to ensure our community continues to have fair and effective representation at our elections.
Our representation review is open for consultation until 5pm, Thursday 12 September.
We encourage you to make a submission about our initial proposal at www.selwyn.govt.nz/repreview.
