New centre line markings have been installed along the right turning bay on Rolleston Drive following a series of close calls and reported incidents with drivers turning from Kidman Street crossing the centre line to access the outside turning lane at the traffic signals with SH1.

These markings have been installed to discourage drivers from cutting through the turning bay, risking head-on crashes.
Motorists are also being encouraged to take care and work together to keep everyone safe and the intersection flowing.
To do this, please:

  • Do not cross the yellow line along the edge of the right turning bay
  • Do not drive through the turning bay to get to the traffic signals
  • The turning bay is for vehicles to wait to turn right into Kidman Street
  • The painted median is for larger queued vehicles to wait in to turn right into Kidman Street
  • If you’re in a queue, please do not block the intersection — leave space for turning traffic
  • Where possible, vehicles should look to fill both lanes at the traffic signals evenly
  • Larger vehicles, please leave enough room to negotiate the lefthand turn out of Kidman Street.
