Find out more about changes being proposed to how we prepare for and manage emergencies.

The Council is running a workshop on Wednesday 13 September to learn more about the Government’s proposed new Emergency Management Bill.

The workshop is open to the public to observe and learn about the bill and how you can make a public submission, if you wish.

The new bill aims to bring practical improvements and small changes to update the existing Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002.

It aims to ensure improvements such as making sure communities are better prepared to respond to and recover from emergencies and the impacts of emergencies on people, the economy, and the environment are reduced.

Some of the key measures in the Bill include:

  • improving outcomes for communities disproportionately impacted
    by emergencies
  • enhancing the resilience and accountability of critical infrastructure
  • improving operational effectiveness.

The workshop will be held at the Council Rolleston Offices 11am-12pm 13 September and streamed online on the Council YouTube channel.

You can also find out more about the bill and how to make a submission on the National Emergency Management Agency - Te Rākau Whakamarumaru website.
