The members of the Springs Day Club at their birthday celebration, all holding up 10 fingers

A decade of community catch ups and support has been celebrated.

The first meeting of the Springs Day Club since the Level 4 lockdown would have had a party atmosphere anyway. However, the meeting had an extra special flavour as the group of more than 50 held a birthday celebration for the 10 years the club has been meeting.

One of four day clubs for senior citizens in Selwyn  the Springs Day Club began as a craft and care group. The clubs are supported by the Council’s Community Fund,

Today, the group meets monthly at the Lincoln Event Centre from 10am to 3pm. It's an opportunity to connect and meet new people in a caring environment. Activities include bowls, raffles, board and card games, bingo, guest speakers and quizzes. Volunteers prepare a hot lunch and afternoon tea is provided.

The club has proved very popular, providing valuable connections and activities for members, and even a global pandemic couldn’t dampen their enthusiasm, coordinator Rita Tipples says. “The majority of the group were really keen. Everyone was so happy to come back.”

New members to the four day clubs are always warmly welcomed. You can contact any of the clubs on:
