One of the reasons people enjoy living in Selwyn is the excellent outdoor opportunities. And there’s plenty of Selwyn to explore in winter, so throw on your beanie, scarf and jacket and get out there.

Experience our winter wonderland of snowcapped mountains, frozen lakes to skate away on and delicious comforting meals to fuel you for your next adventure. If skiing is your thing, well you’re in luck!

In Selwyn we have six great ski-fields with easy access to uncrowded slopes, diverse terrain for all abilities, as well as fun events and courses to learn new skills.

A day is easily spent up at one of the ski fields, but if you don’t want the fun to end there, there’s a great accommodation options nearby.

Selwyn is the perfect place for stargazing, astrophotography and connecting with the cosmos, with little air pollution making for some of the clearest night skies.

Simply look up at the sky on a clear night or if you’re after a more exciting or personalised experience, visit the R.F. Joyce Observatory in West Melton or book a stargazing tour with Christchurch Astro Tours in Lincoln.
