For places bursting with character there are a variety of historic halls such as the beautiful Broadfield Community Centre – a category two listed hall built in the 1870s with a kitchen and situated in a reserve with tennis and netball courts – or the 1930-built and recently restored Southbridge Hall which includes a stage.

For character and modern practicality there’s a wide range of choices whether you’re looking for a meeting venue, sporting event or celebration. These include the Lakeside Memorial Hall and Dunsandel Community Centre – both winners in the 2019 Canterbury Architecture Awards.

The Lakeside Soldiers Memorial Hall, built in 2018 to replace the former earthquake-damaged hall, retains original features from its 1917 predecessor such as the fireplace and an open sky courtyard at the heart of the building which is paved with bricks recovered from the original hall.

The Dunsandel Community Centre combines award-winning architecture with a flexible modern space featuring smaller meeting rooms and larger venue spaces that can open up into one big space catering for up to 200 people. For more active spaces, venues such as the Lincoln Event Centre, and West Melton Community and Recreation Centre have a variety of affordable
venue spaces for everything from weddings to community meetings, concerts and sporting fixtures.
