We are asking for people’s feedback on our proposal for future representation arrangements around the number of councillors and community boards we have and the shape of our wards.

The Council’s initial proposal for our future representation arrangements includes reducing the number of councillors from 10 to eight, and having no community boards.

This proposal is based on research and feedback received from the community this year.

Other matters the Council has decided on are to continue using the first past the post voting system, and to not establish Māori wards, following consultation with local rūnaka who have indicated they do not support having a Māori ward at this stage.

You can learn more about this proposal at our public drop-in sessions.
