Selwyn infrastructure company CORDE has been recognised as Canterbury’s best contractor company.

CORDE (Formerly Sicon Limited & Blakely Construction) won the Civil Construction New Zealand (CCNZ) Canterbury Contractor of the Year Supreme Award at the CCNZ Canterbury awards earlier this month.

The Selwyn District Council owned civil contractor also won the CCNZ Canterbury Environmental Award for the second year in a row for its work on the Wanaka Lakefront Development. CCNZ is the leading industry body for civil construction representing over 600 companies around Aotearoa.

The award recognised the high quality of CORDE’s work and its delivery of projects across a wide range of projects across the South Island and in a wide variety of work from construction to maintenance of water infrastructure, parks and reserves and resource recovery. It particularly noted CORDE’s innovation on projects, along with its rapid design and build solutions for community infrastructure damaged by weather events.

The environmental award recognized the company’s commitment to going beyond what was asked for by clients in its environmental focus, and its innovation in work around the Lake Wanaka waterfront to protect the lake and wildlife, and working with the community.

It was a well-earned reward for the company’s work in recent years, CORDE Chief Executive David Wilson says.

“It's a huge privilege to be awarded Contractor of the Year by the CCNZ for the quality outcomes of our construction projects this year. CORDE are also really proud to win the Environmental award for the second year running. We've invested heavily in our people, our new machinery and the latest technology to build a business of international quality. It really is an exciting time to be working at CORDE.”

Council Chief Executive David Ward says it’s positive to see the Council-owned company picking up the award and showcasing the quality of Selwyn businesses.

“We have many high quality businesses in Selwyn that take pride in setting a high standard and representing this district well. It’s good to see CORDE getting recognition for the work they’ve put in both Selwyn and across the South Island and to see a Council-owned business earning the recognition of their peers in the industry for their work.”
